presidential library that does a remarkable job of detailing the life and presidency of one of the most polarizing presidents in US history. See an almost exact replica of LBJ's Oval Office, information on the 207 pieces of "Great Society" legislation he passed, including Medicare, Medicaid, public broadcasting, environmental protection, the War on Poverty, education, and many, many others.
The Library talks extensively about the Vietnam years and the toll it took on LBJ, as well as the JFK assassination, and his family.
They also have special exhibits -- when I visited, there was an exhibit on Walter Cronkite, which was spectacular!
The best part? It's free admission and free parking!
I hadn't been to the LBJ library in 30 years, but it was just as good today as I remembered when I was a little girl. Fantastic presidential library -- don't miss it!
I'm not picking on this museum. For a museum, it is well done and very informative. Very intersting displays on LBJ and Ladybird. I simply do not know too many kids or even young adults that would want to spend time here. If you have someone who loves history though, check it out!
We were visiting the UT campus so we went in here to see what it was. It is free admission, there are some interesting parts - there is an actual recreation of the Oval Office, with the actual furniture used by LBJ.
Not much at all for kids, my 12 year old was mildly interested, but the 3 year old wanted out as soon as we walked in.
This is my parents favorite place to visit when they are in town. LBJ was my mom's favorite President.
It is open every day except Christmas, free admission AND free parking.
They have some exhibits that stay the same, and some rotating exhibits. I was lucky enough to see the Declaration of Independence when it came to town - wow, that was powerful!
So, if you get to Austin, put it on your list of places to see!
