I cringe writing a title like that because I truly want to support a more cultural Las Vegas, but if you happened to read my review for the Las Vegas Zoo, then this one kind of falls into that same kind of category; Not For Tourists.
There are many things that Las Vegas does well and so far, we've failed in the quality museum category. Now this is not to say it isn't worth taking your children to if you are locals... but if you are visiting and have been to any other Natural History Museum in a remotely large city, then please, do not come here. It is the miniature, small town, 1970's version of what a natural history museum ought to be.
That said, it's definitely one of those places that local Las Vegans need to support and go to, if for no other reason than to promote a better museum for our city. There are dinosaurs, taxidermy animals, sharks!, geological areas and a science center. It's all good for an hours worth of entertaining the young ones.
My son had a great time at this museum, in spite of its small size. The dinosaurs were his favorite, but he also really enjoyed the young scientist center. When he reaches school-age we will definitely bring him there for their educational program. For a major metro area, this is a small museum but it turns out to be just big enough to get your younger children tired but not grumpy. It's also across the street from the Children's Museum, so you could plan an entire day around visiting the two.
