"A Hidden Gem"

Lakeway Swim Center is a public family recreation center owned and operated by the City of Lakeway.

AMENTITIES

Lap Swimming Pool.
Leisure Pool with Lilly Pad Pool with Frog Slide and larger slide.
Lots of Lounge Chairs for Sunbathing.
Skate Park, Basketball and Volleyball Courts.
Picnic Tables and Large Shaded Umbrellas.
Concession Area with reasonable priced treats/snacks (including shaved ice).
Clean Restrooms and Outdoor Showers.
Climbing Wall and Canyonlands Hiking (I didn't see this, but it states this on their website).
Coin-Operated Lockers.
Chess and Checkers (again, I didn't see this either, but states it on their website).

In addition to all these fun do-it-yourself activities they also offer swim lessons, water aerobic classes, Parties and Rentals.

OUR EXPERIENCE

We didn't know about this little hidden gem (tucked away in the back of a Lakeway neighborhood) until our neighbors invited us to go with them.  My husband, 2 little girls (ages 4 & 5), my neighbor and his little girl (age 8) and myself got to enjoy some fun in the sun at Lakeway Swim Center.
We spent our time in the leisure pool.  It has a beach entry and is not a super deep pool (maybe 4 ft deep I "think").  It has a little, cute froggie-slide appropriate for kids of all ages.  If you're brave try walking/running across the lily pads floating in the pool without falling off.  A section of the pool has a Volleyball net for some cool fun!  And for taller kids (I don't remember the height requirement, but our kids were not tall enough) they have a larger twisty water slide.  There are plenty of trained lifeguards throughout the pool area (this made me feel great with my little non-swimmers).  The pool and grounds were very clean.  Speaking of clean...the restrooms were also very clean and well stocked with toilet paper etc.

STAFF

The young staff is obviously well supervised and trained because everyone from the gate entry, to the concession stand, to the lifeguards were all very professional, warm and friendly.

COST/VALUE

I felt like the cost for entering the pool area was VERY reasonable.  The fee is good for all day.
NON-Lakeway Residents (subtract a $1 if you are a Lakeway Resident):
Kids under 3 (FREE)
Kids 3-17 ($5)
Adults 18-54 ($6)
Adults 55+ ($5)

Because this is a Year-Round facility they also have a season pass (see website for details).

HOURS (2011 Summer Season runs from May 30-August 21)

LEISURE POOL
Monday - CLOSED
Tuesday through Saturday - Noon to 8pm
Sunday - Noon to 6pm

LAP POOL
Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 6am-7:30am (all 6 lanes open)
Tuesday through Saturday - Noon to 8pm (4 lanes open)
Sunday - Noon to 6pm (4 lanes open)

And something we haven't done (but sounds fun)...they also offer a DIVE IN MOVIE during the summer season on Friday nights.  The pool is cleared at 8pm and then you can re-enter at 8:30pm.  Catch a family-friendly movie title for $3 per person.  Movie starts at 8:45pm.

If you live near or are visiting the Lakeway area and are looking for a way to cool off during the summer months.  I highly recommend checking out the Lakeway Swim Center.
