At this pine-fringed, 13-mile-long lake at 4,500 feet, the snowy peak of Lassen and surrounding mountains are mirrored in clear, calm waters. Families who like to swim, boat, fish, and water-ski enjoy the sandy beaches, small lodges, and campgrounds on the western shore; summer lake surface temperatures reach seventy-five degrees. The Lake Almanor Recreation Trail, an easy, flat, 9.6-mile paved route for biking, waling, and cross-country skiing, follows the west shore of the lake. The small town of Chester caters to vacationers with simple lakeside resorts, motels, houseboats, and campgrounds.
I love bringing my kids on the Lake. Sitting on the lake with beautiful views of Mt Lassen and Dyer Mountain in the distance, it's hard not to have a good time. During the hot summers, we can't spend enough time in Lake Almanor fishing, water skiing or just cooling off. Lots of great fishing in the summer. This is one of our favorite places to camp. The beautiful tress, mountain views and water activities put beautiful smiles on the kids faces. Don't forget you bikes. There are miles and miles of paved and flat biking trails that run around the lake. Perfect for young children.
