Every year this amazing mission hosts a Mission Day's event where the folks who volunteer dress up in period attire, have live demonstrations and yummy food. It was so great to take my four year old and one year old to a place that is not commonly visited by young families, she really embraced it!
See the Americanos’ complete and authentic restoration of this important mission back to the way it was in the 1800s. The primitive but effective water system has also been restored and will give kids a fresh appreciation for running agua. There are gardens,
hiking trails, and picnic facilities. Some scenes from the movie Seabiscuit were filmed here in 2003.
My daughter chose to make a video about this mission for her 4th grade CA missions project. Docents were dressed in period costume and were showing how people lived and worked back in the days of the missionaries. We enjoyed the candle making and blacksmith exhibits. My daughter got to touch a real mission bell from the 1700's (with permission from a docent, of course).
