This is a very nice park to spend the day. We were here a little while back for a family event and it was nice to go to a park and not have to worry about if there will be enough shady places to sit for everyone. The park is loacted a bit out off the main road of Escondido and if I did have a local who found this park I would not have found it on my own. I belive I will be going back to this park in the future for more family events.
The park was named after Christopher (Kit) Carson, the famous scout who guided
Capt. John C. Fremont over the Sierra Nevada during an exploration expedition. This large regional day-use park features 100 developed acres and 185 undeveloped acres, beautiful walking/hiking trails, ball fields, lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, 3,000-seat outdoor amphitheater, three ponds, tot lot/playground, shaded picnic areas with tables/barbecues; Sports Center complex with pro shop, 20,000-square foot skate park, two full-size roller hockey arenas, and one full-size and one mini soccer
arena.
Opened in October 2003, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle in the Iris Sankey Arboretum
is the only American sculpture garden created by the renowned French-American
artist Niki de Saint Phalle. The garden’s outside diameter measures 120 feet and isencircled by an undulating wall across which slither large, playful serpents decorated
in colorfully patterned mosaics. The Snake Wall has one entrance into the garden—a
mazelike passageway whose walls and floor are also decorated in bold patterns of
black, white, and mirrored tiles. The garden takes its name from the legendary black Amazon queen, Califia, who was believed to rule a terrestrial island paradise of gold and riches. Be sure to include a visit to this amazing, unique structure to indulge your family’s magical senses.
