Continuing on the way to Iao Valley, stop at Kepaniwai Park, a historic spot that’s been turned into a great picnic site with plenty of tables and pavilions. Kamehameha won an important battle against Maui’s warriors here during his mission to gain control of all the islands. Today you can walk among a Hawaiian grass shack, a Portuguese villa, a Chinese pagoda, a New England–style house, a bamboo house, and a Japanese teahouse.
