We have been to the park a number of times. On the weekends it is very crowded. If you don't reserve a picnic area it is rare to find one. The water park area is rather small and has height limitations for children. There is a play area close by but there is very little shade so check the temperature of the metal before letting little ones climb on.
The beach area and campgrounds are well kept and always pleasant. There is lots to do and everyone can have a great day or weekend even at this city park.
Hanna Park has a lot to offer anyone! We're not really beach people, but the rest of the family is. So when they want to meet up at the beach, we sway them to Hanna Park. On one side there's the beach. Lifeguards, pavilions, clean sand, salt water...everything you could ask for from a beach! On the other side, there are big open fields, a playground, and a freshwater splash park for little ones. There is a freshwater lake where you can rent paddleboats, go fishing, kayaking or canoeing. But please remember it is Florida and where there is freshwater there are likely alligators.
We typically stay in the splash park and playground area when we go. For the $3 entrance fee, it's well worth it. The equipment is always working and clean. There are restrooms and showers nearby as well. There are also biking and hiking trails, but we haven't managed to try those yet. The playground is in the shade which is really nice. It's a great place to spend a nice summer day!
This park has everything you could be looking for on a hot summers day. With it's many beach access points, private party picnic areas, fishing areas, and even a child water park complete with shooting water cannons. There are bathroom facilities not far from the beach with his & her separate showers. Parking is just $3. Don't miss out.
A litany of beaches continues from Mayport southward. One of the local favorites, Hanna Park encompasses 450 acres devoted to wide, ocean-swept beach, heavily wooded nature trails (favored by mountain bikers), picnic areas, volleyball, kayak and other water-sports rentals, and freshwater fishing. Campsites are available. Lifeguards supervise in summer. It’s a terrific place for an all-day family picnic in the park.
My kids and I have been to Hanna Park about 5 or 6 times. This park offers a very rare saltwater and freshwater combination. You can walk your dog on the beach or you can ride a paddle boat in the freshwater lake. There are bike trails and camping. For just a minute or two out of the city, you can instantly be in a "remote" environment. My kids love this place due to the variety. We have some video of it at www.armadillopepper.com (click the Fun Stuff Link). The video is titled Jacksonville Great Outdoors.
