This is at the enterance of the Honolulu zoo there were a lot of people enjoying there lunch here in the park. When we were there it seemed to also be a place that the homeless hung out around so it was a little unappealing as a tourist. There were however some really nice trees, we explored the trees for a while and thought about how it reminded us of africa and our favorite TV Lost. If you need to get some energy out of the kids and don't want to hit the beach and sun again this is a nice shady spot to watch the kids run around.
This park is huge, and in a good location. it is across from the aquarium, zoo, and Waikiki beach. Like everything in Waikiki parking can be hard to find, but if you like parks, you will love how big this one is. There are also tons of events that go on through out the year, recently attended a Scottish Festival here, lots of fun, and still plenty of more park for other to enjoy.
I agree with TravelPangs, but: 1) it's almost the only significant patch of grass on Waikiki, so head there if somebody wants to throw or kick a ball around (Ft. DeRussy is closer if you're on the ewa end, though), 2) that's where the zoo is, and it's across the street from the aquarium, so it's convenient for a picnic before or after, and 3) if you want to jog or take a long walk, there are fewer stoplights and crosswalks there than anywhere else in the neighborhood.
Kapiolani Park starts where Waikiki ends. It's a peaceful place for a stroll with lots of shady trees and a little lake you can set up a picnic at. It is a nice escape from the bustle of Waikiki and fun for a bike ride, but I wouldn't make a special trip here.
Kapiolani Park is a great place to go for some old-fashioned, Frisbee-flinging fun. The park encompasses 140 acres and was built in the 1800s. It’s named after Queen Kapolani, King David Kalakaua’s wife.Locals flock here daily for soccer, rugby, Frisbee, picnics, kite flying, softball games, and volleyball. In addition to a spacious grassy area, features of the park include jogging trails, bicycle paths, gymnastic equipment, and tennis courts. The Royal Hawaiian Band performs for free every Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the bandstand. The bandstand also hosts other free outdoor concerts, publicized in the local newspapers. At the far end of the park, Waikiki Shell hosts several outdoor events, with an amphitheater designed for optimum acoustics.
Enjoy nature's natural beauty. Your entire family will enjoy this park from the large beautiful trees to the fresh green grass. Have a picnic, take your camera, grab some outdoor games and have fun! Just be kind and clean up after yourself to preserve this beautiful park.
