"Cool but very very expensive"

This place is almost entirely made up of money vortexes.  There are a few plays and shows but mostly, anything you do here is going to cost you a ton of money.  The food is expensive, the shops are expensive, and that's most of the appeal of this festival.  There are a few good plays and roaming characters which can be cool, but overall, it's a spending spree set in older times with icky bathrooms and no a/c haha.

"A fun (and possibly tiring) all day event"

The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is a popular event and is often busy/crowded. There is a lot to do and see, but because it is outdoors your enjoyment may be subject to the weather. Sometimes it is very hot, and if it rains the dirt paths/ground can get muddy. Be prepared for lots of walking around to see everything.

There are many shows/skits throughout the day, and sometimes you may have the trouble of needing to choose between two shows you want to see (I guess not necessarily a bad thing)! The performers are all very lively and like to engage the audience. Children will most likely find interest in the different stores and crafts, and watching shows like the jousting. But young kids might get tired after being out for a while, and spending a good amount of time at the festival is necessary to experience everything.

They do have different themes every week, so you can choose a weekend that features a topic of interest. Every year you can also get admissions discounts for donating canned goods. Like most festivals/carnivals, the food is rather pricey (but pretty good if you like that type of food, especially the turkey legs). The souvenirs/goods are also somewhat expensive, but it's the experience that makes the festival worth visiting.

"Living History event-fun for all-worth every penny!"

We go every year and have a blast!  The setting is renaissance England in the 1500's.  They often run special discounts for each weekend, so watch their website for details about how to get a few dollars shaved off ticket price.
This is self guided and great for all ages.  The paths are dirt and stray and some gravel, so on rainy days or just after rain days a stroller can be difficult to navigate (but not impossible) and muddy.
They do offer living history tours at no extra fee.  They last about 45 minutes so they are the perfect length for kids (and interesting and funny too).  You can sign up at the front gate if you're interested.
There is something for everyone here: shops, pubs, food booths, shows, the joust, arms demonstrations, Childrens Realm (play equipment and story time and games), the rides, games, music...it goes on and on.
You can easily spend all day here, so plan for it.  It is a blast.  Our favorites are the Robin Hood Show, the human chess match, the joust, and the game booths (and the giant turkey legs of course).
