Some locals claim Kahaluu Beach Park which it's designation as a nature preserve makes it the best snorkeling beach on the Big Island. It’s great for beginners because many of the snorkeling sites are close to shore, where it’s shallow and protected. Be sure to warn
your kids to stay within the bay, because the currents are strong outside.
There are lots of turtles to see, but not to touch; it’s against the law as
they are an endangered species. Keep a respectful distance.
Facilities include a pavilion, rest rooms, showers, a lifeguard tower, and limited parking. This beach is baby stroller accessible. Concession stands and beach rental gear stores are located nearby.
The snorkeling was amazing! There were so many fish!! We took a kickboard, fins, and swim shoes. The coral is sharp so the kickboard helped keep feet safe. We saw many turtles. They often come up onto the shore. Kids are tempted to touch them, but it is against the law. Also, the water was calm and clear. We enjoyed hours of fun at this location!
