The Ocala area has it up on all other parts of central Florida as far as natural attractions go. The continental United States’ southernmost national forest, Ocala National Forest, is a 400,000-acre refuge for wildlife and sports folk alike. A gurgling land of warm (7 degree) springs and sand pines, it offers camping, swimming, hiking trails, wildlife sighting, canoeing, and diving in several recreational areas. Most popular and scenic is Juniper Springs, where an ancient waterwheel-powered mill edges see-through waters. A 7-mile canoe run takes you past alligators, limpkins, turtles, and other wildlife.
