Fishing Rod & Binocular Loan Programs
All Ages:
Want to fish but don’t have a rod? Want to bird watch but don’t have binoculars? Borrow one of ours! Kids under 16 should be with an adult. Anglers over 16 should have a PA Fishing License. Ask at the front desk.
Family Activity Packs
Borrow a fun-filled backpack to take out on the trails. Learn about trees, insects, or mammals and become a Junior Naturalist! Ask at the front desk.
Make and Take Storytime
Ages 3-10 yrs.
Join refuge volunteers on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 1pm for stories and take home crafts.
The 1,200-acre John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for conservation of habitat and promotion of environmental eduction. The refuge is alive with 281 species of birds and healthy populations of mamals, reptiles, and amphibians. Ten miles of hiking and biking trails meander along the Tinicum Marsh and Darby Creek. Don’t forget your binoculars to enhance the view from the Observation Tower.
The Cusano Environmental Education Center (CEEC) was built using sustainable design techniques. The building includes a resource center, classrooms, Tinicum Treasures Bookstore, and a “living marsh machine.” The center houses many interactive exhibits and displays highlighting wetlands and wildlife.
