The Hancock building is a sixty-two-story rhomboid, an unusual shape for a building and one that makes it change in appearance when you see it from different angles.
From Copley Square, it’s a sharp, slim jab of reflective glass; from downtown, it’s a wide mirror for the older Hancock building next to it. For a professional-looking photo, take a picture with the Trinity Church’s reflection on the building. After Setember 11 the observatory at the top was closed.
Be in the know and surprise the locals! The colored lights on top of the spire of the old Hancock building at 200 Berkeley Street signal the weather!
• Solid blue, clear view
• Flashing blue, clouds are due
• Solid red, rain ahead
• Flashing red, snow instead (except in summer, when flashing red
means the Red Sox game was rained out!)
