This is a really nice museum, but it is not for children. I thought maybe visiting the outside grounds (they have a flower garden) would be nice, but it wasn't anything too exciting. It is very well kept, but a lot of the things, you have to pay extra for, which it's already somewhat expensive to get into in the first place. Pass over if you take kids, they will be bored!
I attended the Renaissance Fair at the Ringling Museum a couple of years ago with my family. The Fair itself was alot of fun but afterward we check out the museum and learned so much that I never knew about the Ringling family and circus. The grounds and building are also very beautiful.
Just off Tamiami Trail lies Sarasota’s preeminent attraction, the sixty-six-acre bayfront estate that John Ringling left to the state upon his death. The art museum is responsible for giving Sarasota its reputation for the artistic. Designated as the State Art Museum of Florida, it specializes in late Medieval, Renaissance Italian, and Spanish baroque works. The most impressive exhibit flaunts a collection of five original Rubens tapestries. Definitely too highbrow for youngsters (and for adults bored by religious paintings), it does have hands-on activities Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
