It's like we flew straight to Japan. I loved the koi pond and the bonsai. We took meditation pictures. The museum was great. Very Education. The kids loved all the exhibits. We loved the friendly staff. The tour was enjoyable for the kids and also for me. The museum is located in a great place so that one can go from museum to museum seeking fun and enjoyment all day long.
The Japanese Friendship garden is a beautiful authentic Japanese garden and is a sister garden to another in Japan. The docents are very friendly and knowledgeable about the garden and the koi pond is always a hit with the kids. The garden also holds tea ceremonies and Bonsi and Ikabana classes. There is a small cafe where patrons can sample Japanese such as sushi and green tea ice cream. There is a small fee for entrance to the garden but California residents and active duty military can take advantage of free admission on one Tuesday each month.
We decided to stop by this garden on a whim while at Balboa Park. Our garden membership at the South Coast Botanic Garden allows free entrance to this garden, so we took advantage of it. It's a small garden and it also has a koi fish pond. There is an exhibit house with a nice observation window of the rock garden. The highlight for my toddler guy was jumping from rock to rock along the rock path. If we didn't have free admission, I'm not sure this would be my first choice while in Balboa Park, since there are so many other family and kid-friendly options of things to do/see. I was also slightly distracted by the freeway noise and other Balboa Park happenings while visiting this garden.
