Japan Town is home to many Japanese restaurants, sushi bars, and karaoke lounges. There are also many small shops offering a fascinating array of merchandise from Japan, spas offering shiatsu, anma (Japanese full-body massage), and reflexology (a Japanese adaptation of foot massage developed by the British). Japanese supermarkets packed with food products from Japan displays of ikebana. On some weekends especially in the Spring and Summer, Japan Town comes alive with see traditional Japanese music and dance performances, flower arranging demonstrations, martial arts presentations, and a variety of other cultural events.
There are some great spots to take pictures. There are fun food adventures to be had. Lots of little shops with little trinkets(watch small hands around glassware.) We love the photo booths, and the bookstores, and the crepe and chocolate shops.
Hints:
During the week there is room to run around and it is not to crowded. Parking can be a challenge.
My kids really enjoy places like this in big cities. There are some great places to take pictures. Most kids have a blast eating teppanyaki at Benihana. You can go to Kinokuniya bookstore and find all your kids favorite anime characters. Japan Town is a nice way to spend the afternoon in SF.
