If you, like us, have a seafarin' little one and you happen to be in the Jamestown/Williamsburg/Yorktown area, make time for a short (free!) voyage across the James River.
On a whim, we decided to take the ferry so our little pirate could feel the breeze on his face. He loved the "big boat" so much! On the upper deck we could see for miles. On the cargo deck we could talk to the birds and watch the the wake of our journey. The return trip also gives a glimpse into the Jamestown Settlement, a living museum/attraction.
This free ferry runs daily from Jamestown right next to Jamestown Beach to Surry County. The trip takes about a half hour one-way. Boats load and unload quickly, so there is little wait time.
We did not spend time in Surry, though there was a Civil War reenactment taking place downtown as we drove through. For us, it was all about the boat ride.
