Principal Park, formerly Sec Taylor Stadium, is a minor league baseball stadium located in Des Moines, Iowa. It is the home field of the Pacific Coast League's Iowa Cubs.
Principal Park is located at the confluence of the Des Moines River and the Raccoon River in downtown Des Moines. The stadium seats 11,000 fans and has 45 luxury suites, 12 of which are in a building in left field that also houses the Cub Club restaurant. The Iowa State Capitol building is visible from beyond the center field fence, while some seats also provide views of the Des Moines skyline.
For just $1 on select days you can get a General Admission ticket to watch the Iowa Cubs! $1 tickets will be available at the ticket window on the day of the game.
We're Cubs fans, but this is still a great deal. We sat on the third base line and were able to get some great pics of the players as they warmed up. Some of these guys were called to the bigs shortly after we watched them. Much, much fun and so glad we went!
The stadium is a good size and the facilities are well kept up. There are quite a few options for refreshments. Check the schedule to find out when the event nights are. There can be fireworks and giveaways. If they are giving something out at the gate and you want in on it, be sure to get there early!
Minor league baseball has such a small town feel to it and this is no exception to that rule. The stadium is small enough that you never have any fear that you'll be out of the action. They run many many special events like dollar days and family nights that bring out the crowds.
