Perhaps the feel of the International Market Place just isn't my taste and maybe it would suit you better but I wasn't too impressed. The market place, located in down town Honolulu near Waikiki Beach is a maze of shops selling cheap trinkets and souvenirs. The food court there is reminiscent of a carnival. Over all not worth making a special trip but you may enjoy walking through if you are down town for other things.
The International Market Place used to be great. Lots of shops and eating places and lots of entertainment. I was there last weekend and so much has closed down, eating is better throughout other places in Waikiki and must less expensive. Just not the same and the kids have to worry about touching everything! While you can still shop and it is still a cool area of Waikiki, not a "must see" anymore. If you have a couple of hours go somewhere else for shopping like the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet on Wednesday, Saturdays, or Sundays. Much more fun and the prices are so much more inexpensive!
This is a great place to walk around and enjoy the shade. Don't buy anything here. Save your money for the swap meet. However, this is a fun place to walk around in the shade and look at all the trinkets for sale. There is plenty of nearby food for sale and it's very close to the beach. Stroller friendly
You can get a lot of souvenirs here, and there's quite a few restaurants and bars hidden in there as well. We especially liked going at night, it kind of gives it a whole new "vibe". There's also lots of entertainment inside and out so it's good for the kids too. We stopped and had our kids' picture drawn and they still have it hanging in their room! I would make sure to have a stroller for younger kids though because it is a lot of walking.
We only spent about thirty minutes walking through. Even if you don't plan on making a purchase, head to the back to see the amazing trees it is set up around. The post office upstairs was open on a Sunday so we were able to mail postcards before we left. There are also a few shops upstairs and we got better deals on some of the stuff we were looking for. Like the other person said, they will haggle with you to make the sale.
I walked around the International Marketplace for a few hours & had a great evening of souvenir shopping. Lots of deals on cheap jewelry, clothing & tchotchke. Not for the high end shopper, but fun for the average tourist. I went with my young daughter at sunset & we had a good time together. The second time I went there was a little later at night & it did seem to get a little shady as there was some 'adult' business going on the streets .
This is my second favorite place to shop on the island. This shopping market has it all! Food, Flowers, Souveniers, and entertainment. They have live music and shows throughout the day in the food court area, the kids will surely love to join in on the fun. There are street entertainers all along the outside of the strip and they are real crowd pleasers.
This is a great place to find things to bring back home, I recomend walking the shops out back first before commiting to buy anything from a store inside the mall itself. Prices seem to be better from the vendors and don't be shy - they'll haggle with you! There are some beautif Lei's here and this is the best price around. We got some here and kept them in the mini fridge while we were not wearing them, they lasted a couple days!
This is the place to et Dole whip in waikiki, another can't miss treat! Lastly, this is the location of the post office if you want to stop in a nd buy postcard stamps! The market is free to walk through and prices go up from there :)
