"An interesting experience"

I keep reading online reviews where people really love this place.  I am still up in the air about what exactly to think.

I took my kids there along with a neighbor girl when they were about 6 and 4.  I wasn't prepared, but the museum is in basically a rowhouse on Frankford Avenue.  There are 2 floors full of bug displays and of course, the cockroach kitchen.  There were even people to let some of the bugs out and tell you about them.  My kids got to see a tarantula up close and touch it.

The kids really liked this place.  I thought it was kinda dumpy and I hate bugs, so I really didn't look too close at them. I probably shouldn't judge that part.

It is educational and neat in a creepy kinda way.  There are coupons to the place in the KidStuff or Entertainment Coupon Books, so check there before you go.

"Fun with the Family"

Named “Philly’s Best Kid’s Attraction, Repulsive” in 2001, the Insectarium has been featured in Life magazine. Steve’s Bug-Off Exterminating Co. has assembled the Insectarium, a collection of live insects in naturalized settings, mounted specimens, and interactive displays.
This one-of-a-kind museum is designed to teach the importance of insects as part of the diversity of nature—but mostly it’s a lot of fun. You won’t be able to forget the “cockroach kitchen,” the “glow-in-the-dark” scorpion, the live termite tunnel, or the tarantulas (no matter how hard you try). A new outdoor Learning Garden includes a butterfly tent.

"Insectarium "

I have 2 boys 4 & 9 and my youngest especially loves BUGS!  We had a blast when we were there!   The kitchen with all the cockroaches was a big attraction.. also they loved petting the bugs (can get crowded-BELIEVE IT!)  bring quarters for the meter parking on Frankford Ave...we spent 2-3 hrs.   I was amazed w/ their collection of insects from other countries! WOW.
