My 6 year old & 5 year old son and 5 year old daughter loved visiting here the second week of July 2011.
My daughters favorite part of the day was getting to participate in the little school house class and dressing up in pioneer clothes like Laura wore. The 3 of my kids even put their noses to the chalkboard like the kids would have had to do during Laura's time if they were naughty ;) My boys thought driving the horses during a wagon ride was the best part. I must say that is awesome that they actually were allowed to do that! Spent 4+ hours walking around and exploring. Well worth the money.
Super Friendly staff!
My kids do love watching the Little House DVD's so they were very familiar with the family. I do not think children would need to have any prior knowledge of the Ingles family though to appreciate and enjoy this place.
Current prices are:
$10.00 each, ages 5 & older
Children under five free
Admission includes all activities & exhibits.
I visited the Ingall's Homestead in August of 2009 with my children ages 4, 5, and 7. For anyone who has grown up enjoying the Little House on the Prairie books, it absolutely brought the books to life. We were on a cross country road trip and this was a bit out of the way from our I-90 route, but well worth the detour. At first I balked at the $8 per person (under 5 are free) cost but I would pay it again. You can camp there too, the prices for camping range from $10 for tents to $50 to camp in a covered wagon (be warned that it was very cold, windy and it sprinkled during our summer visit). This property actually belonged to the Ingall's family and many of the buildings are original (some are replicas from the same era). Each building contains examples of furniture, clothing, bedding, artifacts, etc... from the lifetime of Laura Ingall's Wilder. You can ride a horse, drive a team leading a wagon, pet farm animals, pump water, "attend" Laura's school, make a corn cob doll, etc... Everything is included in the price of admission. Our favorite building was the dugout (which you could go inside of and climb on top of). The best rule: (I almost couldn't believe it) "You may touch... EVERYTHING"
