The Indiana State Museum is located in White River State Park in the heart of Indianapolis. A museum dedicated to everything Indiana, your kids will find lots of art, science and culture to explore.
The Indiana State Museum is a really neat place to visit. They have exhibits that change and that are really interesting. I would recommend it for parents with older children. I do not think younger kids might enjoy it as much. The gift shop is really neat and the museum has a nice location.
This is a great place for adults to go to. Between the beautiful architecture and the exhibits its a lot for your eyes to take in. However my children didnt enjoy it completely. Yes there were some things that interested them, but most did not unfortunately. That could just be my unfortunately uncultured children though.
We had a great time at the State Museum. It is neat in that it has historical information and memorabilia from different counties and cities around Indiana. It is focused primarily on Indiana History. There is also an IMAX theater inside, which is pretty neat. The museum is located directly on the canal. Fun place, but may be a bit boring for younger children.
I've lived in Indiana for...er...let's just say a long time, yet never knew so much about the history and culture of the "Hoosier State" as we learned with one visit to this museum. The kids really liked the rocks and fossils but I much prefer the info about famous Hoosiers (Jackson 5 costumes!), and the traveling exhibits.
The state museum has a focus on local indiana geography and history. It is a modern museum with excellent facilities. The displays are wonderfully detailed with a fairly substantial interactive component. My kids always like the ice age animal. Garage parking is moderately priced but worth it in winter to avoid the weather.
