A wonderful place to spend the day shopping, eating at the restaurant and swedish market. There is also a kids play area with special events monthly.
We love ikea! It does take a few hrs to walk thru though. You can leave your kid in the childcare if they are potty trained and around three i think and up... This store has such great prices and is a streamline style... They specialize in helping utilize small spaces! Love their candles, kitchen ware, and lighting!
The kids ask to go to Ikea. They lke to play in supervised smile land while Dad & I shop around. Then they love to grab a bite from the cafeteria, delicious very affordable food. Often they run promotions like kids eat free or for 99c. There's another play area upstairs in the cafeteria. We can also get an icecream on our way out. We all love Ikea!
Okay, this one is a little selfish. Mommy was in heaven. I live three states away from the nearest IKEA, so this was a big playground for Mom! Dad was a great sport, pushing the kids in the way-cool carts (the wheels swivel in all directions - the most fun cart to push ever!) The food was fantastic, and we were impressed that they even gave us free baby food for the baby. Prices were fabulous, but it's probably a good thing I live so far away -- to much of a fabulous thing would leave one broke! They do have a kid daycare/drop off area, but we are so not comfortable with that type of thing with strangers...Can't wait to go back! (Even the bathrooms are designed for kids!)
Whenever we go to Ikea, we plan on spending at least half of the day there, our son loves looking around and pretending to "shop" the kids area is pretty clean and the fact that he can play with the toys there allows us to see if it is something he will really use or just "sit" around the house... After shopping, lunch at the food court is always good... they have high chairs available and the kids menu is pretty good. If you bring your own food and snacks from home they do offer dishes and cups, one more chance to try their products before buying them!
We like to stroll around here...a great place to use a baby carrier. I prefer to secure my son in his Ergo and meander around the store. We usually find something to buy.
Haven't been into the kids' play area yet. Have used the family restrooms. They are spacious but not always the tidiest. Sometimes a little stinky.
Good shopping though. And sometimes we end with a hotdog or cinnamon bun. Not bad for a shopping excursion.
I was reminded today why I love IKEA even more now as a mom than I did before I had kids- it consistently has great shopping, including everything I need to keep my kids' stuff organized, but it's also just such a family-friendly place to hang out.
Whether it's the small play kitchen right in the dining area of the cafe, or the plethora of feeding gear for your kids for you to use (including bottle warmers and plastic plates and utensils), or the free baby food with purchase of an adult meal, or the great kids' meal options, you will be well taken care of just in the cafe area.
I also really liked the huge baby care room at this IKEA. It's even nicer than the one at my local IKEA. This room was so well stocked. There was a chair for me to feed the baby in, and a koala seat if you need to put your child somewhere while you use the toilet. There was a play table to keep older kids entertained, if you have to bring them in with you. And there was a sink and nice diaper changing area, complete with free size 3 Huggies diapers. Seriously, if I had brought nothing with me other than just my baby, everything I needed to take care of her was provided there.
This IKEA is a nice new one, a two-story store, with the cafe and showroom upstairs and the marketplace and furniture pick-up area downstairs. There's lots of parking, including a family lot just off to the side.
This place is well worth a trip!
IKEA has just about mastered the family shopping experience. Not only is it affordable, but everywhere you look there is something for the family with kids: play areas, small play stations, reasonably priced food! If you haven't been to an IKEA before...GO!
I never really thought of most stores catering to kids. When I step into Ikea, you know the kids were not an after-thought. They were part of the plan the whole time.
First off, they have a family friendly parking area for cars with families (although I see a lot of folks parking there who do not have families, which is frustrating). I wish they had things like this for the grocery store. What a great idea. It is a small lot, but you don't really have to cross the main 'road' through the parking lot and you don't have crazy drivers in there so your kids are safer. Plus, it is right by the front door.
Then you always see their supervised children's playarea when you first walk in. For us it doesn't work quite yet (the kids need to be potty-trained, and this tall to go in). I think the kids have way more fun in there than shopping with mom and dad!
For the kids who do stay with mom and dad there are playstations throughout the store with steering wheels and blocks that move around on wires and things like that.
Then in the bathrooms they have the usual changing tables and FREE diaper dispensers. The changing tables are actually stocked with the paper mat you can put down between your kid and the plastic...this is the only place I have seen that - I was gobsmacked! They also have sinks down low, so the kids can wash their hands and get their towels to dry off with. Our 19-month old LOVED that! It was the first time he had seen it. There is also a 'baby care room'.
On top of all of that, the food in their cafe is really kid friendly and tastes pretty good, and is on the cheap! Those Swedish meetballs always smell so good!
Other than all of that, Ikea is a nice place to shop. Not to mention if you do have a little explorer, it will really wear them out with all of the walking around and looking in cupboards and playing with the different toys.
One thing, we try not to go on weekends if we can help it (it is SO busy!). They open at 10a, so that is usually when we try to show up if we need to go on a weekend.
