Ok, so I know that a review on Ikea seems a little strange on a family website. You probably want to run hiding when you think of shopping with your little ones. But, the perks here are hidden within.
First, you have the note cards and small pencils available as you start your trek through this monstrosity. Truly the writing gear is for adults, but what a way to entertain your kids! When you first enter, grab a pencil and paper as well as a disposable measuring tape. Our kids (6 and 4) loved measuring and keeping their notes.
The kids section of the store was great entertainment. Much of the product being sold is on display and the kids can try everything! Climb on the beds, sit in the chairs, roll the boxes around, and burrow through the toy tunnels.
Lastly, Check the Ikea website before you go for specials - ex: kids eat free. There are many food deals happening each week at Ikea for the kids. If not for the cinnamon rolls alone, you might also score a free meal for the kids!
Although it's likely you'll walk out with a few unexpected purchases, it's definitely a kid friendly store!
This is not nearly as annoying as going grocery shopping with your kids. For one thing, all their stuff is meant to be touched, so they aren't in trouble for touching. Or even kicking or bouncing up and down on the merchandise. The have lots of inexpensive little stuffed animals in the kids' section - so you can even give in and buy a toy for once. The cafeteria is completely awesome for kids. Cheap, good quality food in a set up that caters to parents and kids. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been yet.
That was more like four words, wasn't it. Anyway: sometimes moms I know take their kids to Ikea with absolutely no intention of doing any shopping at all. The food is cheap and good (meatballs!), they've really thought about people bringing their kids there and it shows, and Small Land. If your child is about wasit-high or so and potty-trained, you can leave them there while you shop. Or breathe. Free, for 45 minutes. Isn't that great? I think so.
I spent years poring over the latest IKEA book and dreaming of visiting this store. When it finally happened, I was overjoyed to see that the store did offer so many amazing home furnishings and other home items for such amazing prices. We spent well over an hour browsing and could have easily spent more. Better not visit here unless you have money to spend!
If you need it you can probably find it at IKEA. A little crowded for little ones but they do have a really nice play area where you can leave the kiddo's. The prices are reasonable but sometimes you get what you pay for. The restaurant is great and the prices are right with something for everyone.
I have never used the childcare, but my daughters love the children's toy and furniture area. I can always find the household good I need. The kids area has great inexpensive quality toys. I have taken my daughters during the week, let them play with the toys in the kids area then get a few things for me. Great way to kill a few hours. Wouldn't dare shop on the weekend with the kids. I highly recommend the plastic plates, cups, bowls and cutlery sold in the children's section. Inexpensive, fun colors and durable.
If you plan on going to Ikea, I would recommend leaving the kiddos somewhere because the place is huge. There is anything and everything you could ever need for your home at fab prices. I get all my dish brushes, basic dishes, dog bowls, and toilet brushes from Ikea and nowhere else. It is so cheap and so worth it. Plus, there are lots of unique items you can't find anywhere else.
What an amazing store! I could spend all day in there. And I love how they have each room laid out for you with the dimensions so you have an example of how you could do a room "x" size. Love everything there! Oh & don't forget to eat there! They have a cheap menu that's just fun to try!
I love Ikea. If you want to decorate your home and you have an eye for modern stuff, Ikea is your store. You get everything in the store - be it toys for the children or utensils for the kitchen. I purchased a tent from Ikea. Its quite sturdy considering the Discovery Play Tent which broke while it was being set up. The prices are affordable. The only con I cn say is that its always so busy in that store.
We love to spend a couple hours at IKEA whenever we're in Atlanta. IKEA offers childcare, but we have never used it, so I can't give a review. However, our daughter loves shopping with us. Her favorite part is the children's showroom, where she can try out toys and furniture. Our favorite part is the prices!
If you want to seriously shop, don't take your kids with you to Ikea. This is a great place to shop, especially if you are moving in somewhere and need furniture for cheap or are downsizing and need tips and furniture to help maximize your space. The store is crowded and overwhelming and would be hard to navigate with your children, especially since you have to pick up your goodies at the end in the warehouse by yourself!
While I love IKEA for their reasonably priced furniture and home accessories (my favorite place for items such as organizational items, rugs, baskets, and wine glasses!, I recently learned it is equipped for kid friendly shopping! They have a family bathroom equipped with clean changing table, diapers, wipes, a play area and a nursing area for nursing mothers! There is a play area for children, a restaurant and a cafeteria style line with cheap pizza, sodas, and treats. We always make a stop by when we're in Atlanta!
Ikea probably won't agree with little ones. There is sooo much going on at the store, keep your kiddos close. There's a kids area that's cool, but you don't really go to Ikea to play. The kids stuff there is awesome! You can get furniture there for good prices...not that it'll last forever, but that's okay with kid's stuff :) . I've also found fun stuff for my classroom at great prices as well...toys, tents, etc.
While I think that most children dislike shopping, Ikea is a place that my toddler would love to visit more often than not. They really do a great job of providing opportunities to keep the kids entertained while the parents can shop. We did not take advantage of the drop off play area (I couldn't see what was going on behind the door and it made me nervous to leave my child for 45 minutes with someone I had never met), but it is a great service for folks who have older children. They provided plenty of opportunities throughout the store for my little guy to be entertained while I was able to shop for some much needed housewares. We even had lunch in the cafeteria and there were plenty of healthy options to satisfy both parents and babe! The family restroom was also awesome - step stools for the kiddos to reach the sink to wash hands and even tables and toys set up so that mom can feed the baby while the toddler/kids play!
If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be at IKEA every day, just so I could drop my daughter off in their play area! haha...okay, maybe not every day--but it's a great service, and she loves it! More stores should take a cue from IKEA that parents are more likely to spend money when they're not lugging around whining children!
Don't get me wrong...I love Ikea. But in terms of it being a great place to take kids it's nothing to write home about. I find that quite often in the Atlanta Ikea people just let their kids run free and don't keep a close eye on what they are getting into.
Also, when trying to navigate with a little one it is much easier in a sling/carrier than it is with a stroller.
So I just love Ikea but I think it really is a family event. I love the children's play area. It's so neat and the kids love it too. The cafeteria is pretty cheap and it has something for everyone. They can only stay so long in the play area but it's long enough for you to get some shopping done.
