This is a great place to take a class field trip or to take your kids to learn more about nature! The staff are very nice and are very knowledgable about nature! The perfect time to go is in the spring or fall when the seasons are changing! But really there is no wrong time to go!
Ijams is a wonderful place to let the children run and roam! They have 5 miles of trails with various levels of terrain (from paved to natural, flat to hilly). There really is something for everyone to do here including Fido (dog cleanup bags are provided at the park entrance)! Additionally, they have a small greenhouse that you can visit during the summer months and a log cabin playhouse for the kids to play about. As a bonus, you can often view small aircraft overheard from the nearby Island Home Airport. Make sure to take along a picnic lunch and blanket for picnicking on the lawn or use one of the various tables in the park.
Ijams is a wonderful Nature Center with lots of walking trails. The trails are varied from easy to difficult. Our favorite is to park at Mead's Quarry and walk down to the river boardwalk. It is absolutely beautiful there. There are two hills to walk, but most of that trail is flat and easy for children to walk.
If you are looking for a good place to take the kids out into nature, may I recommend Ijams. There are some really nice nature walks to be had. There is a boardwalk on the river which the kids will enjoy, as well as a pond with turtles and frogs. There is a nice picnic area and a big open space to run off some energy. The visitor center has bathrooms and soda machines, as well as recycling bins. If you'd like, for a very small donation you can visit their animal exhibit inside which although small is really neat. The Mead's Quarry side of the center has a nice covered picnic area and a waterfall. It's a great place to spend a day with your kids in nature.
