Ice- skate at the village at Copper Mountain on a frozen pond. Rental are $10.
Ice Skating at Copper Mountain is done on a lake in Center Village. Skate rentals are $10 / hour and the smallest size available is a children’s size 8 (skate sizes run small). Access to the lake is not limited to people renting ice skates. I was unsure how long ice skating was going to keep the kids’ interest, but since the kids’ had never walked on a frozen lake before, I definitely wanted to partake of this activity in some fashion. So, we headed onto the ice in our boots. One grown-up with each kid, we grabbed the skating walkers and helped the kids move around the ice. The little guy got cold and had enough after only a couple of minutes but the four-year old thought this was a blast. Rather than going back in and renting skates, we ditched the walkers, and just played on the ice in our boots. We had a blast walking, twirling, and sliding on the ice and playing a game of mommy watch what I can do, can you do it to? By not renting skates, my daughter didn’t get frustrated by not being able to actually ice skate. If it is your kids’ first time ice skating, I highly recommend the go play on the ice approach first, and then if the kids really want to try ice skating, at least they have a little bit of an idea of what is to come. I can’t think of many places that will let you onto the ice rink without ice skates.
