"Nice Trip - We Recommend Upgrade to 1st Class"

Prior to heading to the Boston area, we were able to pick up 1st class lounge Hy-Line Cruise tickets to Nantucket on a daily deal site for half off the regular price.  Our passage was for the traditional (not high speed) ferry leaving from Hyannis, MA and traveling to Nantucket.

It should be noted that this review is based on accommodations in the first class lounge.

On the day that we traveled, the weather was hot and humid.  Our 2 hour ferry ride took place in the 1st class lounge which was AIR CONDITIONED.  Blissful.  There were lots of tables and chairs to sit at - as well as a bunch of couches in the middle of the lounge.  A small snack bar was at the back of the lounge and a bartender was on hand to sell drinks and snacks.

After about 30 minutes into our sail, a complimentary snack was set out for us to enjoy (muffins and coffee in the morning, cheese and crackers with ice water on the way back to the mainland).

The sail was very smooth, as was the boarding process for getting on and off the ferry.  The ferry had public restrooms and while the 1st class lounge bathroom did NOT have a baby changer in it, the bathroom right around the corner did have one.

General admission passes can be upgraded to the 1st class lounge for about $15-$20/ticket and there is no charge to upgrade a child's ticket.

We also had a private deck out on the front of the ship.  There were seats and plenty of places to stand around and take in the sites.  We went outside a couple of times to check out the coast, etc, but spent the majority of the sail inside in the AC and out of the wind.

We really enjoyed the trip and since it took about 2 hours each way, we tried to think of the boat ride as part of our Nantucket experience.

If we were to do it again, I would think about choosing the high-speed ferry instead of the traditional one to save some time for exploring on the island.

"Fun with the Family"

Hy-Line Cruises has the only inter-island ferry service between Oak Bluffs in Martha’s Vineyard and Straight Wharf in Nantucket. The seventy-minute, high-speed cruise has a snack bar and plenty of restrooms on board. Departures are once a day, and reservations are not necessary, but recommended.
