We buy a family pass to Hurds every year. It's $50 and includes entry to all of the activities on their property for the entire season. Well worth it. Our son loves their cow train and the apple sling shot and big slide, and after roaming the apple trees and stuffing our bag with delicious fresh picked apples we can go hang out in their park area. They often have live music and there are animals the children can feed (goats, chickens, etc). Beautiful view of the Gunks.
When you go to Hurds, you get a taste of what it is like to pick your own things. You can pick apples, strawberries, or other fruits and veggies. Just check the website to see what is ready during what time of year. It is not a cheap day if you plan on doing some of the other things as well. There is a playground, petting zoo, and corn maze. My kids favorite is the cow train. They have barrels cut out and painted like cows. It gets pulled around as you ride in your own "cow". If you are particular on what apples you like, make sure you get the map to tell you where to go. And they even have some in the shop if you can't find enough to fill your bag.
