The waters of Hulopo'e Bay are part of the marine life conservation district which means that it has abundance of fish and the unique lava formation make the underwater scenery surreal for snorkelers. Additionally, there are tide pools on the southern end that are well protected and excellent for exploring with children. The water here is usually calm but can be rough especially in the winter months. There are no life guards.
There are bathrooms and showers on the south end of the beach. There are also picnic areas, barbecue grills, and some shady, grassy areas where you can spread out and make an afternoon of it.
The most difficult aspect of this beach is just getting here. If you are staying on Lanai your hotel should be able to provide transportation. If you are on nearby Maui, then you can take the ferry which runs 5 times daily. The ferry pulls into Manele Harbor which is just a short walk from Hulopo’e Beach Park.
If you have small children, bring the stroller as it’s a bit far to carry them and all of your gear from the Harbor but if they are older, they should be able to handle the flat 5 minute walk! Be sure to check the ferry times for your return!
Plan on packing a cooler with all of your drinks and lunch. Once there, the only place to get food is in the restaurants at the nearby resort which can be very expensive or the islands only grocery store which is in Lanai City a good 20 minutes by car!
