Hovenweep National Monument protects six prehistoric, Puebloan-era villages spread over a twenty-mile expanse of mesa tops and canyons along the Utah-Colorado border. Cuttthroat Castle and Horseshoe and Hackberry are on the Colorado side. Along with family-oriented interpretive talks, Hovenweep has a Junior Ranger Program suitable for ages 6 to 11. Be sure to pick up a trail guide at the visitor center (Utah side) and plan on spending at least 1.5 hours hiking the loop.
