This zoo is somewhat smaller and more intimate than some of the more well known zoos. This characteristic makes for a more up-close and personal experience. The displays are geared towards youth and more interactive than other places we've been. Take time to eat a picnic in the courtyard.
As a lifelong Houstonian, I have been to the Zoo MANY times throughout the years. I have watched as the Zoo expanded and added attractions. The Houston Zoo is located in Herman Park and it is the most incredible way to spend an afternoon. The newest attraction at the Houston Zoo is the African Forest and it is truly a sight that must be seen! Adults and Children alike will enjoy the chimpanzees, giraffes, and many other animals. I am partial to the Elephants. Recently, our family traveled to the zoo to meet Tupelo, the newest baby elephant. The Houston Zoo is a MUST for any Houstonian or tourist!
I've been living in the Houston area for the past 3 years and have purchased a zoo membership each year to visit as often as I wish. Great place to visit, animals are well kept, look happy, are active, the grounds are well kept, habitats are great and is an all around wonderful place to visit for adults and kids of all ages. Highly recommend going! Have fun!!
The Houston Zoo is everything you can imagine and more! A place where kids can see animals that they hear about on TV, read about in books, learn about in school up close and personal! The kids really enjoyed the reptile collection and also the monkeys. The place is wonderful for families, kids and people of all ages.
This zoo has had a major makeover the last few years. It has been updated and improved in almost every area. The only downside is that as the zoo gets better the prices go up. The cost of admission has more than doubled, but it is worth it. We love going expecially in the summer when you can cool down at the splash pad!
This zoo is great. We were able to take our kids when they were 3 and 1.5 and the 3y old walked almost the whole way. Our favorite parts were the giraffes (they get soooo close) and the snack bar....there were ducks hanging out and the kids were feeding them. We really enjoyed our visit, and plan on going back on our next trip!
The Houston Zoo will thrill anyone in your family. Not a typical zoo, this one features a Tropical Bird House resembling an Asian jungle, where birds fly freely all around you; a hippo-dome; one of the best gorilla habitats in the United States; a large-cat facility with rare white tigers; and an extensive collection of reptiles and vampire bats. The Wortham World of Primates is a 2.2-acre rain forest habitat for the zoo’s primates.
Went to the zoo with my 2 kids - 4 and 2 years - it's not a big, spectacular zoo like some others but there's lots to see (animals, birds and beautiful aquarium) and is very acessible to kids. There's a children's bit with petting zoo (brush the goats!), water section and playground for a change of pace. Many places to sit for a picnic but I wouldn't buy the food there again (expensive and not really good) - so i'd suggest going in the morning and packing lunch.
