For me, baseball is boring to watch on tv but going to a live game is another story! My dad took my siblings and I to Astros games all the time. It is so much fun being there and seeing them hit the ball or make a homerun. The good tickets are a little on the high side but they do have really cheap tickets if you have a big group. Overall, I love going to see the Astros, whether they win or lose. It is always entertaining.
This activity has been a family favorite for years. It's our little tradition so to speak. The kids love the games and the many activites that take place within the facility such as autograph signing, meet and greet with players, etc. The food is aslo fantastic and kid friendly (peanuts, nachos, etc). The Houston Astros also has a kid's club (Astros Kids).
We went to a Houston Astros game last year with with our kiddos. They had a really good time! The game was exciting. And the food was really good. Especially the all-beef hot dogs. Yum! This was a fun-filled family event. I would recommend the baseball game for all ages.
I have been attending Astros games my entire life. Despite how well the team is doing, I have always enjoyed going to a ballgame. Astros games are definitely family friendly and you can normally get family 4-packs of tickets for a reduced rate. The family packs generally include some type of food (i.e. hot dog, nachos, and drinks) with the cost of tickets. If you go to a game on Sunday, parking in Downtown Houston on the street is free. It is also safe to park downtown. Instead of eating at the park, I recommend eating at Frank's pizza downtown. It is an awesome pizza joint and it's not far from Minute Maid Park. Enjoy the game!
My family loves baseball and I played for most of my childhood. When my nephews came down for a week during summer I decided to take them to an Astros game and show them what a real baseball team looked like (they're from Dallas so they like the Rangers). We got seats out in right field in the bullpen section and they loved being so close to the players. During batting practice when the Astros' players were near our seats one of my nephews asked for a ball and Hunter Pence threw him one, needless to say it made his day.
It can get expensive since they bring cotton candy, toys and ice cream down all the time but if you keep the kids focused on the game they usually can resist. Some sections do have some rowdy fans but most of the time they're pretty respectable and understand how to behave when kids are around.
My tip is to get there early and watch batting practice as it gives the kids a chance to get close to the field (you can watch batting practice from any section in the park even if your tickets are for higher seats). During batting practice the players are more likely to interact with the children and it really makes them smile. It also gives them a chance to catch any balls that do come into the stands as there is less competition and they hit many more longballs during batting practice.
We love the Houston Astros! A game can get a little boring for little ones, but if you give them some snacks and point out things in the game they can relate to, it can be a really fun event! The kids love the train that takes off whenever the Astros hit a home run!
we went to the astros game! had a blast- the game was good and astos won! we got free drinks and hotdogs with the package we got. they threw astros shirts at the crowd and my husband caught one. They have activties outside the stadiim for the kids- which is a hit with them they had a blast. We got to meet bagwell and other players and had our tshirts autographed! FUN FUN!
Great all-American day trip to take with a child. The Astros play at a very nice, clean stadium, although the surrounding neighborhood is less desirable. Our visit with my son make an impression on him, he always points it out when we are passing by the stadium to remind us he has been there.
We love baseball. The Astros are great and the stadium is fun for kids of all ages. We have taken our kids a few times. They love watching the game, it's very exciting for them. It's easy to park here, there's food and it's in a great location. There are plenty of hotels in the area. The Inn at the Ballpark is across the street - we haven't gotten to stay there yet because it has always been booked when we go (very popular, good sign). We like the Magnolia Hotel which is also very close. http://www.magnoliahotelhouston.com/houston.aspx a historic hotel.
The Astros moved into their new home, now called Minute Maid Park, in 2000. The downtown ballpark is more traditional looking than the Astrodome, their old home, and features natural grass, a retractable roof, and a rushing locomotive that crosses the stands whenever an Astro hits a home run.
