Daniel Boone’s legacy and contribution to the settlement of the area is portrayed in Horn in the West, a fabulous musical outdoor drama held at the Powderhorn Amphitheater just off U.S. Highway 421.
The play, America’s third longest-running outdoor drama running since 1952, is set during the time Boone lived here, when colonial unrest against British dominance was at its peak.
The play reveals how Boone and his men struggled to settle this area and build the mountain culture that is still evident today. A favorite from the piece, for young and old alike, is a spectacular Cherokee Indian fire dance.
