Hookipa Beach is beautiful and off the beaten path, being located just beyond the little surfing village of Paia. Windsurfers love this spot and it is very beautiful to sit a watch all the colorful sails bobbing around on the waves. Binoculars would come in handy to get a better look.
Paia is most noted for Hookipa Beach, where top-rated sailboarders come from all over the world to enjoy the hefty tradewinds. Bring binoculars, because you’re sure to see at least a dozen colorful sails bobbing about in the water. It’s a great place to sit and watch the sailboarders’ athletic maneuvers. Several contests are held here throughout the year, the best of which is the O’Neill International Windsurfing Championship every spring. The world’s top sailboarders compete in the O’Neill for $10,000 in prize money.
