This is another great beach in the Central Florida area. Perfect place to rent a beach house for the week and take the whole family. Tons of stuff to do and lots of beach area to spread out on. Great beach to exercise on too! Or just catch some rays and catch up on your reading.
Honeymoon Island is a island that is a set back in time. There are no highrise condos along the beach. Just white silky sand & a view that is simply beautiful. The island has a small cafe for food. Otherwise bring a cooler & enjoy the day watching dolphin play. Everytime I am on the island, we see many pods of dolphin. Sometimes the dolphin are very close to shore. The kids will have a fun day building sand castles in the silky sand while you relax in your beach chair. It's nice to collect shells. The island has many shells that wash up on the shore. The park is the best place to watch the sunset in Dunedin.
A bit out of the way but worth the effort. We bring our out of town friends here and they love searching for shells, swimming in the gentle waves, building sandcastles on the beach and relaxing at sunset. It feels miles away from downtown Tampa but is only about 40 minutes west by car. It does get a bit more crowded during the March/April spring break season but there's plenty of beach for everyone to enjoy.
This is a wonderful, out of the way beach where families can picnic, birdwatch, or swim in the surf. Shell collecting is awesome, cloud gazing is perfect. It is a great place for families of all ages. A little out of the way, but a worthwile trip.
I don't think I've ever been to a beach with more shells on it! All kinds of shells, little bitty ones to shells larger than my hand. If you like to collect shells or use them in crafts, this is definately the place to go! I wouldnt reccommend it for sunning yourself... since the beach wont be smooth... tanning is more for the ocean-side than Gulf side. :)
Spend the day fishing, following hiking trails to osprey habitat, or having a picnic. (There’s also a snack shop and a new interactive nature center.) The beach isn’t so great—it’s rocky, even though the staff regularly cleans up—especially when compared with the one at Caladesi Island State Park, a ferry ride away from Honeymoon (see below).
