we went here a few years ago and i am excited to go this year now with our small kids. I know they will be facinated by the exhibits indoors and outdoors. The museum is very well done and interesting. They have animals outside too! they have a bird of prey show every day and otters which they talk about too every day.
Every time we're in Bend, Oregon, we stop at the High Desert Museum. Both an indoor historical museum and an outdoor nature preserve, the museum highlights the best of Central Oregon. My kids especially love the living history exhibits from Oregon's pioneering days and the otters and eagles outside. Be sure to stick around for one of the docent talks; they're excellent!
Gee, where to begin. Okay
1. They have a working saw mill
2. They have river otters, and porcupines, and spotted owls!
3. They have fun revolving exhibits
4. They have real, vintage fire trucks, wagons, and other vehicles
5. No matter what the weather there's something to do both inside and out
6. My sons LOVE this place so much we got back over and over and over
7. My husband LOVES this place so much we go back over and over and over
8. It makes me want to read Little House on the Prairie and churn butter
9. The indoor play area tires the kids out
10. They fall asleep on the way home...every time
And that was just the top 10!
