9 acres of exhibits dedicated to showing the achievements of ordinary folks like Henry Ford. An IMAX theater and factory tours are also available on-site.
I loved taking field trips here as a child, and now as an adult and parent it is just as great. My two children enjoyed making candles, and the Dymaxion house which was a little tour of a "house of the future". I cannot stress how great the Made in America exhibit is for home schooling families. The guide was knowledgeable, kind and able to relate to my son on his level. The only frustrating thing is that there isn't a lot of hands on activities ( at least not when we went ), and it isn't really geared toward toddlers. Although all the walking did wear him out.
This museum is wonderful whether on a field trip or with family. There are so many artifacts to look at and knowledge to learn that this is definitely more than a one day trip. You could do a day in the museum and a day at Greenfield Village. I recommend seeing a movie on their IMax screen while you are there! It is a memorable vacation destination!
There were points of interest for our entire family (Grandparents all the way down to a 2 year old) at this museum. They had activities and exhibits just for kids, as well as amazing displays for adults, including the bus Rosa Parks sat on, the car JFK was killed in. It is HUGE, but it can be done in one day. They have food services available as well. A must see!
If your child is older then 7 I could see how this American History museum would be really interesting. We have 2 kids under 4 and they weren't into it. The homes of famous people that are collected there are pretty interesting and I thought they were really well preserved. The old Model T Fords that you can be driven around in were really neat and the Thomas Edison invention room was incredible. I think kids who have learned about some of our great American inventors would really love this place!
We took my son here when he was two on the first weekend of the month (Bank of America customers get in free those weekends). The museum was great! My husband and I both loved it, and even my two year old son found enough to do- there were combines and trains that he could climb on and explore. We will definately be back!
This is an amazing museum. They are always bringing in new exhibits, so it's a new experience almost every time we go! Of course we love to visit some of our favorite things that are always there. It's very educational while being fun at the same time. I'm amazed by the things my kids have learned here!
I remember going here as a child in elementary school. The Henry Ford is a good place to learn about things of the past. It gives the kids a good opportunity to ask questions and give them a chance to learn. The Henry Ford Museum is attached to Greenfield Village and the IMAX Theater, but both cost extra to gain entrance.
We went here a few years ago before having kids. It was fun for adults and kids alike. You can see an old presidential limo up close, train/locomotive, weinermobile. There was a house of the future from way back when. That was interesting to see what people thought we'd be living like. The line was long but it was worth the wait. There was an outdoor museum attached to this one but we didn't go and you did have to pay extra.
