Visitors can experience the area through interpretive exhibits, scheduled hikes and walks, and by talking with the informative staff and volunteers on site.
We enjoyed our visit to Helen Hunt Falls. You can go down the path and be almost literally in the falls, or you can go up the path and walk past the falls. The path goes quite a ways up, and is pretty easy for kids to handle unless there is still snow in the area. We went once around Easter time and there was lots of snow still on the path which made it very slippery and difficult with little ones. When we returned mid-summer, though, they had a great time. The path can be a bit steep at times, and there are some somewhat steep stairs to climb. We have really enjoyed our visits, though, and will definitely plan to return in the future!
Great place to bring the family! Take some pictures of scenery, or of each other. Hike around!! It is a great free place to run, play, and enjoy. It is very scenic, and plenty of areas to hike around. Bring the backpack for the younger ones, as it can get cumbersome doing all the stairs, and trails with little ones.
We love going here! It's just as cool as neighboring Seven Falls but it's FREE (and Seven Falls is not). With small kids (or in my case, monkeys instead of children) you will need to exercise some caution and pay close attention to the kids. There are only some very basic guard rails on the hike up and the rocks can look perfectly fine when in fact they're SUPER slippery. I spent a week in the hospital in the same room as someone that had tried hiking there and slipped and broke many bones. SO... all that said... stay on the path! But it's great fun and a wonderful FREE family activity!
One of the best parts of Helen Hunt Waterfall is that it's free! It's a beautiful waterfall that's even more gorgeous in the winter when it's frozen on the top. Their is a small bridge over it that you can walk on and look down on the falls from the top. Their are also some great hiking trails near the falls and on the way too the falls. :)
This area is a prime example of all that is wonderful about Colorado Springs! We absolutely LOVE hiking here. There are several different trails all along Cheyenne Cañon Road. The Mt Cutler trail is great for a night hike, and even offers a view of Seven Falls from high up the side of the mountain. The Columbine trails are wide, easy to walk, and provide gorgeous views of the plains and the surrounding mountains. The nature center has many hands on activities for kids, rocks, bones, feathers, and all sorts of things. We end up here quite often on summer weekends when we want to get out to explore.
