From their website: "The Heber Valley Historic Railroad’s history began in 1899, when trains served the pioneers who first settled the valley. The Heber Valley Railroad is reminiscent of the typical short-line railway that could be seen in many parts of Utah and throughout rural America during the “Golden Years” of U.S. railroading." Several different excursions are offered, such as: Solider Hollow Express: 90-minute trip offers incredible views of the Wasatch Mountains and wide-open vistas of Deer Creek Reservoir and the beautiful Heber Valley; Lakeside Limited: A spectacular scenic excursion! Climb aboard for a relaxing ride along the shores of Deer Creek Reservoir and the base of majestic Mt. Timpanogos, for an "over the river and through the woods" view of Heber Valley's breathtaking winter scenery. You may enjoy a variety of native wildlife, such as deer, bald eagles, elk, foxes and more.
This train runs down and back in the mountains near Heber Utah. The staff dresses up and gets everyone seated. Sometimes there are staged train robberies and other antics to entertain young riders. The views from the windows are gorgeous but the ticket to ride is also steep. Its a fun excursion for those who love all thing Thomas and Trains.
We went on the North Pole express ride this Christmas. Our kids had a BLAST! They loved the whole experience! It was so neat to travel like this. The kids loved the freedom of swapping seats around and going up front to do jokes and singing songs. We got Hot Cocoa and a cookie. It was pretty cold on the train, but we had brought blankets so it was fine. The guy taking pictures and trying to sell them too you was kinda annoying. Over all it was a fun experience but I don't think we would ever do it again it was an awful lot of money.
I have been to the Heber Valley Railroad several times on different tours. I love it every time. In the summer they offer trains to Vivian Park and back, winter brings the Polar Express, and fall is a great time for a murder mystery train. They also offer BBQ trains and more. Last time I went we took our daughter who was two at the time. She loved it and so did we. The only killer in the whole thing is the price. Even for a small family it can get really expensive really fast, which has been a major deterrent for our family in going back.
Very expensive in my opinion, and not exactly kid friendly. When we went it was fall but the train was so hot I thought I would throw up, so be careful what time of year you go. There is a show that is fun but it is hard to see and hard for smaller kids to understand. I think this is something that might be worth doing once just to say you did but that's it. I do think they had some very fun old time trinkets and train clothing items and toys you could buy so if your kid LOVES trains it might be worth it to stop by just to grab something from the shop.
If you can get a discount, taking a train ride is a great activity for kids! We've done a few different rides- Thomas the Train and the Polar Express are our favorites. The rides aren't long- maybe 20-30 minutes out and back. Try to plan for rides during the daylight hours as watching the scenery is most of the fun. I feel they're a bit expensive for what you get though. For instance, on the Polar Express, they handed out bells for the kids to jingle during the songs, and really, a bell is a cool part of the Polar Express- but then they had to hand them back. They don't get to keep them. Kinda of sad! Santa did hand out little toys later on, but really, they could have skipped that part and just let them keep the bell! Overall, we had a great time, but not something we'll make a yearly tradition of.
We went on the train to Soldier Hollow for horse back riding. What a great adventure. Staff of the train were great in teaching the kids what they are doing and telling stories on the way. Half way through the ride, the workers acted out a train heist, robbery of sorts, with bandits on horse back and guns shooting blanks. very fun. beautiful scenery. lots of souvenirs to buy at station. we camped near by in Midway city. Definitely would do again.
This is a fun railroad! Kids will really enjoy spending the day here, especially when the Thomas the Tank Engine activities are running. My main objection si the cost. It is much more expensive for what you get than other family friendly acitivites in the area. Because of this fact, we do not attend this activity mroe than once a year, if that.
We rode the railroad in the winter for our Anniversary. It was fun to have some time together to talk and enjoy the nature around us. I think the full ride would have been a little long for our children, but they do have combined activities where you can stop halfway along the way and go sledding or do something else and then take the train back. I'd like to do this sometime with the kids, it's just a little pricey.
The Heber Valley Railroad (aka Heber Creeper) is a great activity if you have a future train engineer in your family! We booked a trip on the Heber Creeper after my young son started showing an interest in trains. We really enjoyed the ride which travels through some beautiful mountain scenery. The ride can be a bit expensive for large families and can get a little long if you do the round trip. That is why I marked it down 1-star. But the ride does give you some good family memories and great pictures. Our family enjoyed the ride!
We did the Polar Express with Heber Railroad recently. Expensive but okay. The ride is a lot shorter than you think it is and it is the same scenery both ways (the train goes up a dead end area than back). If your kid is crazy about trains, he'll love it. Otherwise, nothing great and wonderful.
This is such a fun thing for young kids to do. My husband and I took some friends' kids one day. The kids really like it, although from an adult's perspective it is kind of. . . well. . . boring. The train goes extremely slow (hence the phrase 'heber creeper'). We did see asome wild animals and bald eagles which was kinda cool. I would say it's not worth the money but the kids loved it.
This is such a fun thing for young kids to do. My husband and I took some friends' kids one day, ages 2 to 12. The kids really enjoyed it and talked about it for weeks. A highlight of the ride was that we did see some wild animals along the way including bald eagles.
As far as negatives go, I will say that from an adults perspective the train ride gets boring. The train goes extremely slow. The ride doesn't last long and is overpriced. They do have a concessions stand but from our perspective, don't waste your money. They just had small bags of chips that were overpriced, along with a few other little things like candy bars. The interior of the train is also old and not well kept up.
Although there are some negative points from my perspective, the kids absolutely loved it. The ride was magical for them and they could not have cared less how slow the train was going, or whether the interior was rickety looking.
The North Pole Express was such a fun experience for the whole family! We will definitely make this a Christmas tradition! My kids loved it and couldn't stop talking about it for days. What a great way to spend quality time with the entire family. They serve cookies and hot chocolate and santa visits all the kids. Everyone wears their pajamas and sings Christmas carols. Very fun!
this family train ride up the heber canyon is fun for children or the elderly. they do have the occasional special rides where its themed out like "who dunnit" and a fun christmas special ride, but besides that it is really overpriced and get old very fast.
