Thus was the savagery of old Wilmington. A city under constant assault by the ravages of disease, war, slavery, piracy, murder, suicide & the everyday inflictions of life in a violent 18th & 19th century port city.
And thus you shall find it when you join locally renowned actors and ghost hunters on a journey into the depths of haunted Wilmington. A city considered by many to be amongst the most actively haunted in the world. Once North Carolina's largest city, Wilmington has the largest historic district in the state.
So join us as we traverse 275-year old alleyways littered with the spiritual debris of privateers and cutthroats. Stroll beneath a canopy of centuries old live oaks, their cryptic limbs dripping with Spanish moss, and hear tales of murder and mayhem. And if you dare, tread upon the unmarked graves of thieves, murderers and other less pitiful souls.
Come hear the dismal accounts behind our most unfortunate wretches and discover the poor lost souls that still linger in the Port City. Hear tales past and present, including the most recent encounters with these spirits (many of which have occurred during past tours).
Offered at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in November and March, and Thursday through Saturday, December through February, and at 8:30 p.m. nightly during daylight saving time.
Offered by actors who fancy themselves ghost hunters, the ghost walk takes participants on a journey into the depths of Old Wilmington. From creepy alleyways to the windy riverfront, you'll hear tales of pirates and cut throats who once terrorized this port city. Homes and landmarks, beneath centuries-old live oaks with Spanish moss dangling from their limbs bring dismal accounts of poor lost souls.
We had such a fun time on this Ghost Walk. The tour guides are put through classes and must pass a test on the history of Wilmington. They are very knowledgeable on all the old tales of the city. There were many times on the tour that we swore we saw or felt a ghost!! It was creepy, but an experience we will never forget. This may not be for younger children that may be prone to nightmares though. I was creeped out for a couple days.
