Half Dome is the iconic granite rockface of Yosemite. Rising nearly 5,000 feet above the Valley floor, it is one of the most sought-after landmarks in Yosemite. For younger families, you can easily view it from many different points in the park. For families with older kids, you can hike or even rock-climb to the top.
One of the most majestic views of all of California is to see Half Dome rising above the floor of Yosemite Valley. It's a "must see"! Add it to your "bucket list"!
It is also amazing to look down on the valley, and all over the range of Sierra from the top of Half Dome.
It is not recommended for young children to attempt to climb to the top due to the inherent danger.
One note: if you plan on hiking to the top, I have heard that you must make a reservation ahead of time. It has become a popular day hike for many visitors and the trail is now very crowded. Check out the Yosemite NPS website for more details.
