"Great for sightseeing"
Although the Hawaii Volcano Observatory is closed to the public, an accessible lookout
here offers a gaping view into the Halemaumau Crater. Plaques situated throughout the area offer information about the history and geological particulars of the park. Near the observatory, the short Halemaumau Trail travels for just 1⁄4 mile around the rim of the crater.
