"Wonderful day on the beach!"

My husband and I haven't been able to spend a day at the beach since he became disabled until yesterday when I heard about JT's Grommets Park. I took my husband there in his wheelchair. I was so pleased to see how easy and accessable  it was to take him onto the beach. It is a beautiful set up. The parking was the only thing we were not thrilled with. It was very pricey. But, I was able to wheel his chair to wooden deck where we were able to sit under a beach umbrella, eat our lunch and watch the waves! He was as thrilled as I was. There were even special wheelchairs available to take him right to the water! They are currently in the process of building rest rooms. It was one of the best days my husband and I have had since he has become disabled. I am so thankful for all who were involved in building this park. Especially, Josh Thompson for being the inspiration behind such an awesome place! We are hoping that there will be additional decks for more people to take advantage of it in the summer. We will be going back again!

"Glad I found this park."

Before I go on vacation I like to plan where I will go and this park was on my list. This was a very big park compared to the other ones va beach has.  I love the soft matted ground. My daughter enjoyed running around this playgound. This is a park for handicapped kids/adult which I feel is great. It is right in front of a hotel at the beginning of the boardwalk.

"Shaded Playground on the Beach"

This playground recently opened and is quite nice. It was designed to be handicap-accessible, but kids of all abilities can use it. It has lots of fun things to do for kids (special slides and swings and ride-on activities, dolphins you can climb on, etc.). Plus it is covered by a shade canopy. I don't think you can swim by that particular section of the beach, however. It is free, which is another good feature.

Oh, and it is located on 2nd Street, which is all the way at the north section of the beach, not too far from the Rudee Inlet.

"Kid Nirvana - and special needs friendly"

Built by the people of Virgina Beach, this playground is truly for any 'body'.  It provides a beautiful playground that's fun for all kids, plus is wheelchair accessible.  It includes a beach park that's accessible for all as well as rentable 'beach wheelchairs'.    It's also shaded, which is nice in the hot, hot sun.

Plenty of actvities and fun for everyone!
