If you left this review up to my daughter, she would probably disagree with my title. However, she didn't have to drive 45 minutes to get there or pay the admission fee.
As with other Children Museums we've been to, the challenge exists to keep the exhibits fresh and entertaining. We visited on January 29, 2011 and I couldn't find anything that had been added since our last visit at least a year prior. I did notice that a couple of items had been removed, which I thought should have remained. One improvement was that the fire engine and police car were moved to a larger room giving the children better access and the plane cockpit had been repainted on the outside.
Overall, the facility is clean and well-lit. Museum staff are visible throughout making sure the various activity rooms don't get in too much of a disarray. If I had to choose between this Children's Museum and the one in Winston-Salem I'd go with the latter. However, both locations won't appeal to Grades 2 and up and I think parents should have free admission when bringing a child.
We thought this would be the place that our daughter would love. We've literally went twice ever when she was young. The first time we went, she checked out all of the exhibits, but her favorite thing to do was the sidewalk chalk, the art station, and working in the grocery store. Every time, we tried to move her to another area, she would end up right back at the art station. We have not been back once she was over 5. It is really geared towards children ages 1-5. Also, it can be costly to enter. Look for coupons in entertainment books for discounts.
This bright, colorful museum is a great place for families to spend hours. It is a wonderland of exciting exhibits that are the perfect size for kids and their imaginations. It includes themed learning stations for children ages one to ten. Visitors can swing by the kid-sized ATM at the bank, drive a fire truck, sound the siren on a police car, and bring a DC-9 jet in for a landing. Kids can help with a house under construction or deliver the mail in a U.S Postal Jeep. Whatever's in your town is likely to be in theirs. The “Tot Spot” offers activities to stimulate even the youngest children.
we took an excursion to Greensboro one day to try out the Children's Museum. It was lots of fun - the kids who are 5 enjoyed all the activities. But, from an adult perspective, it just didn't compare with the childrens' museum in Winston Salem. The quality of the displays and the visual appeal are just not as good and it's the same price.
With the addition of the outdoor play area, the Children's Museum has everything that you need for kids ages 1-7. There is under two area with is heavily padded and filled with lots of activities for the really little ones. The theater with sound stage is great for your budding actor. The art center is always filled lots of supplies. Everything from glitter to feathers is available for your project. There is a life size police car, race car and fire truck. The snack machines have a few good choices. I would suggest bringing your own snacks.
What a great learning children's museum. We have taken our daughter here since she was three. She enjoys each visit. Children learn how to shingle a dog house with fabric shingles; learn to write, address, and deliver mail, learn the basics of being a doctor; learn to shop for groceries, check out, and pay; dress up and role play on stage with special effects sounds and lights; put on a puppet show, climb a fire truck, sit inside a police car, sit inside the cockpit of a jet; and climb and play in the play areas. The on site restaurant has great sandwiches.
My toddlers love this place and have since about 8 months old. Great areas for children from crawling to about 10. Usually very clean, areas are rarely closed and they seem to switch out exhibits at a fairly good rate. This will continue to be a family favorite for several more years I'm sure.
We haven't been since my son was 2 because every time we went, he would get sick. Also, the water area always seemed to be dirty. The areas aren't very enclosed, so be prepared to chase your child throughout the building - my little man likes to hop from activity to activity and wear mommy out. I suppose we should try again now that he's older, but overall I wasn't impressed with the bulk of the museum. With the exception of him getting sick, it was a great place when he was just crawling because he would stay in the toddler area and roam around - however, even that was a problem because people tended not to keep their older children out even though it clearly said 2 and under only.
The Greensboro Children's Museum is pure heaven for kids!! The children get to use their imagination to play in a grocery store, play teacher, work in a doctor's office, be a construction worker, a postman. They get to play in an airplane, in a race car, a police car, a train and a firetruck. The imaginations can run crazy at this place!! An added plus is teachers get in FREE with your ID.
I've always been very impressed with the different activities at the GCM. From the train, plane, firetruck and police car, to the mail station, to the little house, to the physical fitness center, to the drama stage, to the musical room, to the doctors office and dentist...there's always something to hold a child's attention. However, when my daughter was younger and we would go to the Greensboro Children's Museum to play in the infant/toddler soft play area, she caught a cold every single time. It caused us to avoid going to the museum except for birthday parties (which are always fun!). It's been better now that my daughter is older.
I LOVE taking my 2.5 y/o to the GSO museum. he has such a great time and there's lots to do from playing with the police car or their sand box. They even have a section for little ones that are under 2 (or three, I don't remember). Go early! we've been there on Tues. around 12 and it's a little busy with little ones running around.
We LOVE the Greensboro Children's Museum . This place is packed with fun hands-on, interactive, and educational centers. My kids are 7,6, and 3 and each found plenty to do to keep them entertained. There is a dress-up theater and stage, a grocery store, bubble making area and much more. Prices are reasonable. We recommend this as a great place for a day of fun!
Finding something to occupy 3 kids - 12, 2, and 10 months - happily is sometimes hard. The Greensboro Children's Museum is THE place for them! You will find a fabulous toddler area that my 2 yo and 10 month LOVE. A wooden train to play on, an airplane, a grocery story, a "house", art area and so much more! We asked for a membership for a gift from a family member and visit it at least 2 times a month and never see all the areas - staying an average of 3 hours. Great time!
The make believe aspects abound here - and your younger kids will have a blast. Playing with chalk, pretend food, the police car.... all these things make for a fun day out for little ones. Older children will tire quickly... this site doesn't have much to offer anyone over the age of 5 or 6.
We enjoy taking our 11 month old here and our 5 year old nephew enjoyed it, too! There is a police car and fire engine for the kids to play on, a camp site, sandbox, post office, market and much more to spark kid's imagination. It is a little pricey at $6.00 per person 1 yr and older, inclding mom and dad.
The Greensoboro Children's Museum is a wonderful day trip for any family with a child under 8 years old. From a full sized firetruck to grandma's house, they have a little something for everyone. In particular, we really enjoy the theater area with all of the costumes and puppets. I don't know who has more fun, our daughter or us!
Been here about 3 times and we love it. My boys get to touch snakes and other animals and that to them is putting them on cloud nine. We love the monkeys and the wolves are a favorite to my husband. We will continue to go again and again. The tigers are AWESOME!
There are so many things for the kids to do here, from a television studio to a simulated beach, from a grocery store to a dressup theater, from a racecar to a construction site. Very inexpensive at $6 per person (under 1 is free!). They also offer reduced admission one evening during the week.
