This show, coming in at around one hour in length is worth the time and then some! You won't be able to help yourself, at least if you're anything like me -- I was grinning the whole time. The experience far surpassed our expectations!
The Scoop: Though it may sound like a corny shore excursion, this is a delightful show that kept our entire family entertained. I was laughing out loud to the jokes and the off-color but tastefully delivered jokes. Our son brought along his little red plastic hatchet and pretended to be slicing through logs with enthusiasm. By the end of the show he was convinced he wanted to be a lumberjack. Being from a Midwestern logging town (and his daddy being a forester) we found it rather ironic that this was what influenced him so!
Aside from the rolling good time the audience has with the storylines and jokes as well as hearty participation, it is astounding to witness the talent the young men have on stage. It’s quite a feat not to chop off your feet when wielding an axe between them, standing many feet off the ground! The last thing that truly stood out when watching the burling especially was how much these guys enjoy what they do. Getting soaked in a pool three to four times a day isn’t everyone’s idea of fun I’m sure – and add to that pouring rain most times – these men have a unique niche that is hard to not enjoy!
Tips: Go to the earliest show of the day – at 8 a.m. we had our pick of seats and were not over-crowded (also no line outside) unlike the afternoon shows. Have kids wear bright colors or sit along the front rows or edges of the benches to increase the odds they are seen during the show by the ‘jacks.
The bottom line: We loved the show and would have liked to have seen it again, if for no other reason than to delight our little lumberjack. The lumberjacks seem to adore kids and try to include them during the show. They are also patient as each crowd member gets a photo afterward. With a spirited “Yo-ho!” you and your family should definitely make time for this show!
Disclosure: My family received complimentary admission to the Lumberjack Show. All opinions are our own.
I initially heard about this show on TV, so I decided to look into it for our Alaska trip. We arrived via cruise ship and the show times worked out with our time in port, so I decided to book this as a more kid oriented activity. I booked this directly through the Lumberjack Show website rather than on-board the ship and saved a little bit of money.
The show takes place in an outdoor stadium just a short walk from the pier. There are food concessions, bathrooms and a gift shop on site. The show itself is about 45 minutes long and very fun and entertaining with a bit of humor and audience participation. One of our kids even got to be part of the show. After the show, the Lumberjacks hang around for photos. Overall, a very good time for all ages.
