Proudly referred to as Chicago's "front yard," Grant Park is among the city's loveliest and most prominent parks. The site of three world-class museums -- the Art Institute, the Field Museum of Natural History, and the Shedd Aquarium -- the park includes the museum campus, a 1995 transformation of paved areas into beautiful greenspace. Grant Park's centerpiece is the Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain, built in 1927 to provide a monumental focal point while protecting the park's breathtaking lakefront views.
The museums are great, but I'm not including them in this review. If there is no festival going on and the fountain is dry (as it was when we visited), it's just grass. There is not a single playground we saw as we walked from the aquarium to the fountain to Millenium Park. I guess I'm used to Central Park, but how is there not a single playground in this huge park? There is a lot of grass and young trees. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But that's it.
Super fun! I had so much fun & so did the people I went with! I cannot wait until I go again! All the activites are so much fun! The gift shops are great & so are the resturants! So much fun to spend your day here! You will have a great time being here!
Gorgeous! A must see. Come to hang out for the day and just enjoy the park.
A great place to bring the family and a picnic. Much to explore; shade or sunshine. Plenty of grass and trees. Lakefront is right there.
A great assest in the city of Chicago.
Grant Park is the site of many of Chicago’s biggest music festivals, for which admission to the park is free. Bring a chair or blanket and sit on the lawn to enjoy worldclass talent performing at the park’s Petrillo Music Shell. General dates are as follows: Chicago Blues Festival, early June; Chicago Gospel Festival, mid-June; Chicago Country Music Festival, late June; Viva! Chicago Latin Music Festival, late August; Chicago Jazz Festival, early September. The park also sponsors an ongoing series of concerts from mid-June through late August; call for details.
