Visit several lookout points to catch the magnificent Grand Canyon sunset aboard an air conditioned motor coach. Get off the bus at different points for photo opportunities.
We did this sunset tour as part of our canyon your package with the Grand Canyon Railway. The only real con is that it is a bit lengthy for little ones with short attention spans. While there are several hop off points to stretch your legs, I would not recommend it for kids under 7.
With that being said, we arrived at the canyon early & had been in the sun all day, so the air conditioned motor coach was a welcome sight! We were all a bit weary so letting someone drive us around was great. The windows in the bus are large so you can see the scenery very well. The coach picked us up at our hotel about an hour before sunset.
The driver gives you a bit of an educational talk as he drives so you can learn as you ride. The are three stops where you get out to look at the canyon. Two of them are closed to auto traffic, so you either hike to them or take the motor coach. The driver is very nice & more than willing to take photos for you.
The last stop is where you catch the sunset. We had to jockey for position with a million camera tripods already set up along the canyon rim. I was able to secure a decent spot but people can get quite territorial. My advice is to get a spot & stay there. Do not move for anything!
After getting some great sunset shots, the bus takes you directly back to your hotel. all in all, it was a nice perk added onto our package. It is a little pricey, so I wouldn't necessarily do it if it weren't already included. The late departure (summer sunsets are about 7:30-8:00) makes for awkward dinner planning so bring a snack.
