Combintion tickets to Mount Vernon and George Washington’s Gristmill may be purchased at Mount Vernon’s main gate.
This destination may be geared more for the adults in your group however, because it is not a long tour it may be able to hold your children's interest.
In the Gristmill, you learn all about how the wheel and mill work and they give a demonstration as well. In the distillery there isn't much going on. You can see the set up and the tour guides tell you about the history process of making whiskey.
This reconstruction of a mill once owned (and designed) by George Washington is operated by interpreters dressed as eighteenth-century millers who use the waterpowered wheel to grind grain into flour just as it was done more than 200 years ago. George Washington’s whiskey distillery is open for visiting, too.
