Ferry Farm will open to celebrate George Washington's birthday on President's Weekend - Feb. 14th and 16th in 2009. See website for more details.
Closed Thanksgiving Day, December 24, 25, & 31.
George Washington resided here from ages 6 to 20, during which time he taught himself the art of surveying. No buildings remain from the Washington era but archaeologists confirmed the discovery of the foundation of the Washington house and plan to excavate other building sites from the farm. Visitors might see whitetailed deer, red fox, opossum, raccoons, rabbits, box turtles, herons near the river, and wild turkeys.
Kids are given handouts of pages to color and a scavenger hunt. From May to October, summer workshops for children include the program "I Dig George" which introduces children to the techniques of archaeology (designed for kids age 6-10).
